It's that time again, the tenth is this Thursday. Here is your friendly reminder to charge those camera batteries and get ready for this months installment!

After much debate I have decided to move the linky party over onto my other blog: a bit of sunshine this month. With a new baby on board I am finding it increasingly hard to keep up with several blogs so until further notice I plan to move the Ten on Ten project back to my personal site!

to a very very special woman.

Kristen has been a part of the Ten on Ten blog since the very beginning - she was one of the original contributors on the project back in 2008 and such a huge encouragement and support to me. She is my SIL in case you missed that and she has always done so much to lift up anything new I try and cheer me on. She is really good at cheering others on and SO inspiring too!

Last year she agreed to come aboard and start posting regularly while I finished out my third pregnancy and got settled at home with my now family of five. She started the interview series and of course the linky parties each month. The Beauty Collective was born too after an entire month spent Capturing Our Blessings together through the month of November. Much hard work on both of those projects by her hands! She has popped in and shared favorite photos and tips and encouraging words to so many of us and it seemed every time I went to update something or change something - boom she was right there one step ahead of me!

She has been a gift to me here in this space and I know to many of you but she herself is a busy Mommy of two young boys too. So it is time for her to take a step back again...but don't worry I have begged her to continue posting on occasion, she is really not going anywhere just refocusing some of her precious time and energy.

I wanted to to publicly thank Kristen for her amazing work on the Ten on Ten blog. Kristen you are truly a gift to my heart and have helped and inspired me more than ever with this project. Thank you for the countless hours you volunteered of your own personal time to be a part, we have ALL been so blessed by you!

I love you sweet sister and I know the collective group here is going to miss your beautiful contribution in this space!

I smiled when I saw these last two photos come through for the final installment of The Beauty Collective :: January. They each seem to be so quintessential Aleah and Rachel, respectively. If you've been following along with us this month, perhaps you would agree. Gorgeous shots to leave us with, ladies. Thank you!

As I did with Stacy and Casey at the end of last month's Beauty Collective, this past week I asked Aleah and Rachel if they would share their reflections and favorite photos from the past month with us.

Here are their responses in their own words:

Aleah:

I can't believe how fast the month of January went by! I've enjoyed getting out my camera each day this month and either already noticing and capturing something particularly beautiful (to me) in our everyday, or purposefully searching it out. I have to say searching it out was a bit harder because that also meant that I had been too busy throughout the day to catch real "in the moment" beauty. I would then usually be running into the 4:30 p.m.-and-on dusk hours (and literally running around trying to find something) without much natural lighting!

Those days that I did notice something or had a day slow enough to take the time to notice, those were my more meaningful days and probably better picture days.

What I was reminded of during this project was, again, to slow down and look, to see what is really around me! How I'd love to be reveling in those beauty moments all day long if I could take the time to really see each one of them. That would be a feeling of contentment!

Out of the 31 picture sets this month my favorite day has to be January 24th. Both Rachel and my pictures just went together so well that day. Just about the same lighting with an old feel to the pictures. Although the "fruit day" on the 27th made me laugh out loud when I saw our two pictures put together, but I didn't get quite the same emotion from that pair as I did with the school house/chalk board pair.

Hopefully some day we'll meet, Rachel! It's been fun to take pictures along with you and see your day through your photos. You've taken beautiful and intriguing pictures!

Thanks Kristen and Rebekah for hosting and for all the work that goes into this project on your end. It was a fun month!

Rachel:

My favorite photo pairings (I had to choose more than one) were “red” on January 11th and more recently “home” on January 24th. And yes, I made up their titles. :) The 11th was the day after we had some snow, and I love how Aleah and I both sought out warm, cozy things on that day. The 24th’s photos also evoked a sense of calm and comfort when paired together. And it was just a coincidence that we both chose images that showed the beauty of “home.” I think these are also my favorites because, to me, they sum up January: cold, but cozy, quiet and calm.

Overall, this project was challenging, but definitely worth it! As an elementary school teacher, it wasn’t always easy to find something around the school that seemed worth capturing. But that is also what makes looking back at the month’s photos so rewarding. There really was beauty all around me—I just needed to take the time to look for it.

I also loved the excitement of seeing Aleah’s photos each day. It was awesome when the two photos just “clicked” (see January 27th), but equally intriguing when our images had nothing to do with each other, yet somehow evoked the same feeling. I am honored to have participated in The Beauty Collective! Thank you!

Thank you, Aleah and Rachel, for committing to this project so enthusiastically. When I approached you both separately to see if you would be interested in sharing photos during January, neither one of you hesitated. Both of you, not knowing who your partner was to be, responded with a joyful "Yes! I'm in!" and both of you said: "Let's do every day, including weekends."

So, we all have received 31 gifts from you both this past month--an extra dose of beauty every single day, during a month when many of us can really appreciate it! Watching your collaboration has been a joy, and we thank you and wish you both the best as you set out into the rest of this New Year. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us and inspiring us to notice the beauty around us, wherever we are!

Farewell, Friends!

As The Beauty Collective wraps up this month, I am also wrapping up my co-authorship of the Ten on Ten blog. It has been a blessing to share this space with all of you, and most recently to act as facilitator of The Beauty Collective. Rebekah was so sweet and gracious to ask me to come on board last spring to help out a bit, and it has truly been my joy to be here! I have loved getting to know more of you out there participating in this fabulous Ten on Ten photo project each month! Thank you to each one of you who allowed me to interview you, and a big shout-out to Mel, of the Larson Lingo for emailing me with the idea of setting up a linky for each month's Ten on Ten! Thank you, too, Casey, Stacy, Aleah, and Rachel for being the first gals to participate in The Beauty Collective.

As I pass the Ten on Ten torch back to Rebekah full-time, you still may see me around these parts now and then. As for now though, The Beauty Collective is on a break until the Spring, and if you know of a photographer you'd like to recommend for the project (or if you yourself are interested!) please email Rebekah at rebekah.gough@gmail.com.

As we kick off the New Year, we are thrilled to introduce our new photographers for The Beauty Collective :: January 2011!

Aleah (of Four Giggling Monkeys) and Rachel Trudelle (of re.collected) will be sharing glimpses of the beauty found in their everyday lives this coming month, and we can't wait to see what they capture! You may remember Rachel and her beautiful photos from the Ten on Ten interview we did with her last October. Aleah has not been featured here before (you are seriously in for a treat if you haven't seen her photography yet!), but has been participating in the Ten on Ten photo project since February 2008, and has been an inspiration to many in the ways she captures real life and the beauty found in the midst of raising (and home-schooling) four beautiful, lively kids. We are honored to present the photographs of both of these women, and we look forward to posting a collaboration from them every single day this month!

Thanks to all of you for joining us here in 2010, and a warm welcome to Aleah and Rachel as we dive into 2011! Happy New Year!

Today we are saying a fond farewell to Stacy and Casey, as today--the last day of December and 2010--marks their last photo collaboration for The Beauty Collective.

Through emails this past week, I asked Stacy and Casey to reflect on their experience participating in this project. My first question for them was, "What was your favorite day and why?" I also asked them if they would share a few words about the overall experience. Here is what these two sweet and talented ladies had to say:

Casey:

"I would love to name a favorite from this project. I actually have two:

December 7 and December 10. December 7th because the day started with me having one of those "oh gosh, what am I going to possibly take a photo of today?" Since we had just put up our tree, I snapped a shot of my favorite ornament--the little Dutch girl in her blue dress. I thought it was one of my most boring shots yet, but when I saw it paired with Stacy's photo from the day, it couldn't have been more perfect.

I love December 10th's photo, because to me it just sort of showed the holiday season. Here both Stacy and I were getting ready for Christmas--wrapping presents and making peppermint treats. I love the way the colors popped out in this photo too.

And I will say as far as the project is concerned, I'm really glad that I was not only asked to do it, but that I said yes and followed through. I don't think I missed a single day. There were times when I felt like my photos were really mediocre, but when they were paired with Stacy's they always brought a smile to my face. I really couldn't have been paired with a better gal! There really is beauty in the everyday, no matter how your day is going. Look for it, and you will find it."

Stacy:

"My favorite photo is probably the one of Gavin painting pine cones with his shirt off and the lit Christmas tree faded in the background. I just love the San Diego feel of Christmas when the sun is warm and shining, but we make all the Christmas festivities happen anyways. I love that it captures our little warm home and simple little things we do together.

This was a challenging task - because sometimes I felt like there was nothing new to photograph that was unique or special in a quiet day. That is the best part of 10 on 10 and the project, so find, see, experience little beauties in every moment. Sometimes they are grand, other times the mundane. A wonderful opportunity to partner with Casey too and see how similar and different our little worlds are - across the country. Thanks for looking at my pictures and taking a glimpse into our little home, and world. Can't wait to see who is up next month!"

I am still getting around and peeking at some of the amazing photographs taken during the Capturing our Blessings project and could not help but share this a-mazing round up Rachel posted from the past month of seeking out the gifts in her life.

Rachel chose to add a single word to each photograph and at the end of the month was able to compile a list and really sit back and enjoy all the blessings she found each day. I am in love your entire set of photos and words Rachel and am totally blown away by your eye for capturing life. Such a wonderful spin on the project. Thank you so much for participating each day and for being such an inspiration!!

Hello, friends! What a joy this past month's photo project has been! Thank you for popping in here to see our photos and blessings this November! Rebekah and I had so much fun undertaking this collaboration that we thought perhaps some of our photographer friends might enjoy being invited to participate in a similar daily exercise, here for others to enjoy. I know I got excited at the thought of seeing a couple of my favorite photographers' work on a regular basis, documenting the month of December in their own unique ways.

So, The Beauty Collective was born (see the sidebar for our description of this project). Stacy and Casey graciously signed on to share their photos here not knowing who their partner would be, and each gal agreed to share a photo Monday through Friday through the end of December. We are thrilled to be sharing their work here starting tomorrow! And we are excited to see what they will capture in their days. With The Beauty Collective there is no specific theme, as there was with "Capturing Our Blessings," but perhaps we will see themes emerge as these women create their pairings each day. That's the fun of it!

Wow I can hardly believe that this is our final installment to the Capturing our Blessings project for the year. I have deeply enjoyed posting my picture each day this past month side by side Kristen's! Finding the similar themes that have naturally happened and smiling each time I opened her email to discovered that her photo was just perfectly suited to the one I had for the day! I have loved searching for blessings woven throughout this season it has been wonderful to document a very busy time in my life with a newborn baby (I am literally typing this one handed)! Thank you to all who participated and followed along with us this month, Kristen and I have loved every minute.

Now stay tuned for an exciting new project Kristen will be unveiling shortly I am super excited about it!!

Yesterday was exhilarating for me for sure. My first day home flying solo with my three babes. We had a blast, albeit a few crazy moments too but I am SO GLAD I was able to capture it all. That is what this project is all about for me, documenting the amazing moments that goes by so fast!

yesterday we hosted a large party at our house to celebrate my second sons third birthday. I think in retrospect it might have been a little bit too much considering we have a 16 day old baby who was born several weeks early. by the end of the evening I was so tired and clearly coming down with something. I wasn't the only one and by the time I wanted to crawl under the covers and fall to sleep my baby was very sick. labored breathing, unable to breath through her nose. fussy and upset and basically up all night. this morning I looked outside, pouring down rain, messy messy house, sick all around and in my heart I knew that the first day of this challenge was going to be just that for me - a challenge.

I truly believe with all my heart that no matter what you can always find blessings woven through life if you look for them. I mean the first ten on ten actually happened simultaneously with my dear grandmothers death. I look back on that first set and see so much beauty and life even though that was a sad time. so today I had to search but I did find a gift in the dinner that had been prepared for us by Sarah, who drove a great distance to hand it to me in the pouring rain, give me a big hug and bless me with a warm meal to serve my family this evening. when Kristen sent me her photo it made me smile, a salad another representation of nourishment for the body on this cold blustery day. a gift.

I don't plan to write with each capture, but I wanted to note today and hope that even during this busy season we are all able to seek the gifts we have no matter the circumstance. looking forward to seeing your captures this Friday!

A few months ago when I found out I was expecting my third baby I approached Kristen about coming on board and helping me with the Ten on Ten project. I honestly cannot thank her enough for the ways that she has inspired and encouraged me through her gorgeous contribution in this space! About two weeks ago my first daughter, Josie was born. I have been flooded with the blessing that is new life and savoring the special bonding moments while falling in love with her more and more each day. Her birth makes me think a lot about this project and remembering why I started it in the first place. I had a just had my second child and was looking for a creative outlet that would be easy enough to do with young children and challenging enough to cause me to look outside the box for beauty among the ordinary things that go on from day to day. It has been almost three years now since this project began and last month we had over a hundred participants that linked up in some way or another. I can not tell you how much that blesses me, that so many of you are excited about looking for those gracious moments in our day that deserve to be forever preserved through the camera lens.

So for the month of November Kristen and I will be doing an extra special little side project along with the regular installment on the tenth. Each weekday during the month we will be posting a single image from both of our days. A moment that might seem ordinary to some but to us a chance to pause and enjoy the blessings and gratitude we have for the lives that we have been given. A very similar idea to one that Amanda Soule started called this moment as well as the 3191 Miles Apart diptychs by MAV and Stephanie Congdon Barnes, and also Andi's 30 Days of Gratefulness. Once a day a wordless way to note our gratitude.
